Les W. Hart ’58 Provides Final Salute for Veterans

Les Hart, age 80 and BEA class of 1958, has played taps at funerals of 500 veterans as part of his volunteer work with the Blair County Honor Guard. Mr. Hart lives in Duncansville and was recently featured in the Altoona Mirror.

“There’s something about hearing a live trumpet,” Mr. Hart told the Altoona Mirror. “People hear a real trumpet playing those notes and the tears flow.”

Les Hart ’58 is a volunteer with the Blair County Honor Guard and has played taps for nearly 500 veterans’ funerals. In an interview with the Altoona Mirror, he shared that he started playing trumpet in fourth grad and plans to continue. He has played with the Air Force Band West out of the Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, in the Hollidaysburg Community Band, in the Penn State Alumni Blue Band and in the King’s Brass, a special local ensemble.
