U.S. Representative Glenn Thompson ’77 (shown) and Superintendent Jeff Miles read to Howard Elementary students on Monday, March 2nd to celebrate National Read Across America Day, also known as Dr. Seuss Day.

Celebrated since 1997, National Reading Day is a movement started by the National Education Association to get kids excited about reading. We celebrate sports with pep rallies and spirit days, so why not have a day to celebrate reading?

March 2nd also happens to be the birthday of one of the most famous children’s authors of all time, Dr. Seuss. Elected officials, athletes, actors, and other prominent and famous people in the community participate by reading to children in their classroom.
