EITC Program Spotlight: Envirothon – A Fun Way To Learn Environmental ScienceAs we mentioned in last month’s eLetter Eagle Ambassadors is an approved Educational Improvement Organization that can take advantage of the Pennsylvania EITC (Educational Improvement Tax Credit) program to fund many innovative educational programs in the Bald Eagle School District.

Each month we will feature one of the programs that the EITC program funds. This month is the Envirothon. Envirothon is a year-round afterschool student organization at Bald Eagle Area in which students study many different aspects our environment, becoming well versed in topics such as soils, aquatics, forestry, and wildlife.

Students have the opportunity to work with aquatic biologists, professional foresters and soil scientists to assess the quality of the environment and learn best principals and practices.

The Envirothon helps our high school students learn comprehensive environmental sensitivity, natural resource management, and ecosystem awareness.  Students compete in an annual County-wide Envirothon competition, with the possibility of advancing to the yearly statewide competition.

The 2015 statewide competition for Envirothon will be held May 19th & 20th at the University of Pittsburgh Johnstown and Windber Recreation Park.  Click here to visit their website.
